Hi all,
I am writing to all of you in my address book, who live in Parksville-Qualicum, to share the news of a really
good carpenter and handyman new to the area. We have been very pleased with his work, and I wanted to
help him with what I know to be powerful support, word of mouth.
Ed and I had a garden shed done. We figured it is a great time to do renos because of the tax
break but we needed something custom to fit our space. Carpentry of any sort is not a Dunnett forte, so we
needed some help. Having had no call backs from craftsmen suggested by our local hardware store--a job too
small I guess--I took an ad off the bulletin board at Qualicum Foods. Joerg called right away, cam around
and showed us his portfolio and discussed the work. I checked out his references and they were all just
fine.
Joerg is a recent arrival from Hundred Mile House, settling in the Coombs area and wanting to develop a
clientele for his special talent of handyman carpentry, making things, and making things work. No job too
small. He has come from Germany relatively recently however, and is learning the language. Joerg
charges by the hour but estimates on how many hours he will take to do the job, so you know where you are
likely to be at. He works intensively to get the job done, starting with a good discussion of what
you want. He'll figure out the material needs, buy the materials after doing some comparison shopping (this
saved us quite a bit), do all the lugging, do the building or reno or whatever, clean up afterwards, and
give a meticulous record of every nail. (if that is what you want). He works closely with you, so that you are
the maker of every decision, but still does not overdo that. I personally like that very much...no assumptions!
I see on his card that he is also a certified home inspector and is bonded.
Ed and I were 100% pleased with Joerg's work and give him full recommendation. His email to contact
him is
j.zschaemisch@gmx.com . Telephone (250) 594 3334. It is
a local call. Feel free to drop by our place and have a look at his work if you want to know him by his
deeds.
Neighbourly yours,
Janet Dunnett
We have known Joerg for about six months and hired him to do our home renovations, which was basically a
complete rebuilding of our home and shop from exterior to interior and from "floor to ceiling".
We are happy to report, Joerg completed the project on time and on budget.
Joerg's work is excellent and he has proven to be an honest, honourable, hard working craftsman who pays
attention to every detail and is particular about getting the job done right and to code.
Trough our home rebuilding and other projects Joerg has completed in our area, he has come to be in great
demand and we gladly refer him to anyone that asks about contractors or handymen.
Yours truly

To Joerg,
Both Elsa and I would like to thank you again for all the professional help you have given us
during our move to Alder Street Qualicum Beach, and in particular the excellent
construction of the lean-to you built on the outside deck area. Please feel free to quote
our picture and appreciation to future business you will acquire.
Yours sincerely,
Ron and Elsa Geary, Qualicum Beach
About Joerg
Joerg is an outstanding problem solver and worker paying great attention to detail
in shed building, house painting, basement sealing and other work he has done for us.
And he is totally reliable and trustworthy around the house. We found this out
when we had Joerg completely repaint our house interior while we were in Mexico this winter.

I have known Joerg for 2 years. In that time he has done numerous jobs for me
with great satisfaction. He has re-built 2 decks, built a wood shed and
re-painted my house and all the outbuildings.
He now maintains my Property.

My “handyman blitz” in the Fall of 2011 was a leap of faith based on excellent recommendations from people who have worked with Joerg Zschaemisch. A property owner must have absolute confidence in the quality and expertise of the builder and the handyman because problems can take a while to start showing up, long after the workman is gone.
I am very satisfied with the value I received from his work and his sharing of knowledge and expertise with me. I am also confident that Joerg stands by his workmanship.
After a walk-about with Joerg to all 5 of my rental properties (during which he was introduced to the tenants whose cooperation and trust was needed) and an initial discussion about what I needed/wanted to have done, I basically turned him loose to “make it right”. Based on the first meeting, Joerg developed a priority list since we had a set timeframe in which work. At the end of the work period, Joerg and I worked out a rational way to invoice for the labour and expenses in sufficient detail to provide a written record and to meet the taxman’s expectation. As revenue properties, Joerg’s work is deductible.
My trust and confidence both in the quality of Joerg’s work and his honest reporting of time and expenses was justified. Sometimes, with a specific project, one can expect to receive a fixed estimate but in the case of this “handyman blitz” my costs were based on his hourly rate plus the cost of materials. It was also an effective use of my time to be able to get so much done all at once.
A job like this also requires good communication skills with the customer who needs to be educated and who might even need a ‘wake-up call’. Though as a conscientious landlord I have kept my properties in good repair, I am aware now that they have not been well maintained. Subsequently, much of what Joerg needed to do during his blitz was to do basic preventive caulking, grouting and weather-stripping which had not been done in years.
Good communication skills, of course, also require good listening to help the customer sort out “want” from “need” so the right things get done right. I have learned from this “blitz” that time spent discussing the overall objectives at the beginning of the project would be time well spent. Respecting Joerg’s intense focus on the work he is doing once he gets started, regularly ‘touching-base’ during a ‘blitz’ would also be worthwhile.
